Denise Byrnes Graham grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts. From a young age, art was a large part of her life. With encouragement from her high school art teacher Tom Lucas, she continued her study of art in college. After graduating from New England School of Art, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Art from Northeastern University. For many years, she worked in the commercial art field as a graphic designer and illustrator.
Denise has worked in all mediums, but is particularly drawn to pastel for its luminous quality, vivid colors, and ability to represent texture. The woods, fields, rivers, skies, and coastline of New England, as well as the changing seasons, are a constant source of inspiration for her representational pastel landscapes. Her paintings have been described as having an atmospheric quality with a sense of place.
Denise has won numerous awards from juried shows including First Place for Drawing and Pastel at the Duxbury Winter Juried Show 2015 for her painting "Chasing Sunset". She was nationally recognized with the Ditto Editions Digital Print award at For Pastels Only on Cape Cod 2011, for her painting, "Field at Great Esker. Denise is a member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, North River Art Society, South Shore Art Center, Weymouth Art Association, and is a gallery member at the Russell Gallery of the Plymouth Center for the Arts in Plymouth, MA.
